Teacher Scholarship Program 2024 by Garland ISD

Launched in 2019, the Language Connects Foundation (LCF) Teacher Scholarship Program is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring language educators. This program provides recipients with an award of $1,500 per academic year, renewable three times after the initial award, culminating in a total of $6,000. This scholarship is designed to support future language teachers in their educational journey and help address the current shortage of qualified language educators.

Scholarship Benefits

In addition to the financial award, recipients of the Teacher Scholarship will receive complimentary membership to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). This membership includes access to the ACTFL Mentoring Program, which is specifically aimed at early-career language educators. This support continues during their participation in the scholarship program and for one year following graduation, helping to ensure a smooth transition into the teaching profession.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents attending secondary schools in the United States or a U.S. territory.
• Anticipate completing a high school diploma at the time of application.
• Be accepted and planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution, leading to credentialing as a language educator.
• For the first time in 2024, students entering both two-year and four-year post-secondary institutions are eligible to apply.
• Have taken at least two years of the same language in high school, or provide documentation of proficiency results from an ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), the ACTFL Assessment of Performance Toward Proficiency (AAPPL), or a comparable assessment.
• Have maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA overall (on a 4.0 scale).
• Applicants must not be related to any ACTFL staff member.
