New Scholarships at University of Greater Manchester Seeking Applications for 2027 Entry

If you are planning to study in the UK in 2027, the University of Greater Manchester International Excellence Scholarships could reduce your tuition bill by as much as £5,000, while one exceptional student can receive a 100% first-year tuition fee waiver.

The scholarships are available to eligible international students entering undergraduate, postgraduate taught, MBA, and doctoral programmes. But there is an important distinction: most awards are based mainly on your academic results, while the highest-value Global Scholars Award also looks at leadership, achievements, and your potential contribution to the university community.

How Much Funding Can You Receive?

Your scholarship value depends largely on your academic profile and how you apply and eligible students applying directly from selected countries may receive:

• £4,000 Gold Award for a First-Class degree or equivalent
• £3,000 Silver Award for an Upper Second-Class degree or equivalent
• £2,000 Bronze Award for other qualifying academic profiles

Applicants applying through recruitment partners, or from countries outside the main scholarship regions, may instead qualify for an International Merit Package worth £1,000 to £3,000.

The most competitive opportunity is the Global Scholars Award. Ten selected students receive a £5,000 tuition fee reduction, and one of those ten is chosen as the Chancellor’s Excellence Scholar, receiving a 100% tuition fee waiver for the first year.

Sounds generous—but is it fully funded? No.

These scholarships reduce tuition fees only. You should still budget separately for accommodation, food, travel, visa costs, health-related charges, and other living expenses.

Can You Apply for the University of Greater Manchester Scholarship?

Yes, if you are an eligible international fee-paying student, hold an admission offer, and are funding your studies independently.

Government-sponsored students are not eligible.

The university identifies numerous priority countries for its higher-value scholarship packages, including China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt, Brazil, Canada, the United States, EU countries, and several African nations.

You normally need to reach the Gold Award academic level before competing for the Global Scholars Award.

Strong grades therefore get you into the race—but they do not necessarily win it. The university can also consider your leadership potential, personal achievements, ambitions, and how you may contribute to its international community. Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview.

With only ten Global Scholars Awards available and just one full first-year tuition waiver, applicants should treat this as a competitive merit award rather than an automatic tuition discount.

Can You Receive Extra Discounts?

Some students may qualify for additional funding.

Women entering eligible STEM-related programmes such as Engineering, Computing, Medical Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Psychology may receive an additional £500 Women in STEM Award.

A further £500 Transnational Education Progression Award may be available to students progressing from approved international partner institutions, while eligible immediate family members of current students or offer holders may receive a £500 Family Discount.

Combined awards cannot exceed the full first-year tuition fee.
