Taiwan Scholarships

Taiwan Opens NYCU Spring 2027 Fully-funded Scholarship Admissions Globally

International students planning to study at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) in Taiwan for Spring 2027 now have an active scholarship application window—but there are two different scholarship calls, and confusing them could mean applying through the wrong route.

For genuinely new international students, the important opportunity is the Spring 2027 NYCU New Students Scholarship, accepting applications from 10 August to 13 November 2026.

A separate 2027 Spring NYCU International Students Scholarship is open from 15 July to 15 September 2026 and is relevant to eligible foreign students already progressing through NYCU’s scholarship system.

Why the Two Scholarship Listings Matter?

This is the first thing I would clarify before uploading anything.

NYCU currently lists:

2027 Spring NYCU International Students Scholarship
Application: 15 July–15 September 2026

and

Spring 2027 NYCU New Students Scholarship
Application: 10 August–13 November 2026

If you are a newly admitted student entering NYCU for the Spring 2027 semester, the second call is the one that should immediately get your attention.

The university’s scholarship information also explains that continuing international students normally need to have completed study at NYCU and meet academic-performance requirements when applying for or renewing relevant awards.

In other words, new admission and scholarship renewal are not the same process.

What Does an NYCU “Tuition Waiver” Actually Mean?

This deserves clarification because applicants often interpret the phrase “tuition waiver” as meaning every university expense disappears.

NYCU explains that a tuition-waiver award covers basic tuition.

Students can still be responsible for other costs such as:

dormitory charges, insurance, campus-related fees and other incidental expenses.

So if your scholarship result says “tuition waiver,” do not immediately calculate your study cost as zero.

Before accepting an offer, I would separately estimate accommodation, insurance, food and compulsory university charges.

Is There Also a Monthly Stipend Associated with NYCU Scholarship?

NYCU’s scholarship system includes awards involving monthly stipends, and the university notes that such stipend payments are normally deposited around the 10th of each month.

However, the Spring 2027 announcement shown here does not specify the exact stipend amount or confirm that every new-student scholarship recipient receives the same financial package.

I would therefore avoid quoting an old stipend figure from another intake.

Your actual award letter should be treated as the final authority on whether you receive a tuition waiver, stipend, or another scholarship combination.

What Should New International Students Do First?

Do not begin with the scholarship portal alone. Your scholarship application should make sense alongside your NYCU admission application and academic profile.

I would prepare:

strong academic records, evidence of previous achievement, a clear study/research direction and any programme-specific supporting documents requested during admission.

Scholarships are competitive, so simply qualifying as an international applicant does not mean funding is automatic.

If you are applying for graduate study, make sure your previous coursework, research experience and intended NYCU programme form a coherent academic progression.

Do Scholarship Recipients Have Chinese-Language Obligations?

There is an important distinction by study level. NYCU states that undergraduate scholarship recipients must take at least four Mandarin courses during their studies.

Master’s and PhD students are treated differently under the scholarship rules, so graduate applicants should follow the requirements applying specifically to their award and programme.

This is worth checking before accepting funding rather than discovering an additional academic obligation after enrolment.

What Happens After You Receive the Scholarship?

Scholarship holders should pay close attention to the duration of their award.

NYCU does not imply that every scholarship automatically continues for the entire degree without review. Students who need continued support may be required to submit a renewal application during the period announced by the Office of International Affairs and satisfy the applicable academic conditions.

That means maintaining your academic performance after arriving in Taiwan can be just as important as winning the initial scholarship.

Spring 2027 NYCU Scholarship Deadlines

For new international students entering in Spring 2027, the scholarship application window runs from 10 August 2026 until 13 November 2026 at 11:59.

The separate 2027 Spring NYCU International Students Scholarship closes on 15 September 2026 at 12:00.

If I were an incoming applicant, I would first determine exactly which scholarship category applies to me, then check what my prospective department requires for admission, and only after that prepare the scholarship submission.

The biggest mistake here is not having a weak application—it is using information meant for continuing students when you are actually applying as a new Spring 2027 entrant.
