Who Can Apply for This University of Minho Fellowship?
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the time they apply.
The fellowship is intended for Bachelor’s graduates enrolled in eligible non-degree higher-education courses or students following an Integrated Master’s programme in Architecture. Importantly, candidates may submit an application before completing the required enrolment, but valid proof of enrolment must be provided before the fellowship contract can be signed.
The competition is open to:
- Portuguese nationals;
- citizens of other EU member states;
- citizens of non-EU countries;
- stateless persons; and
- people holding political refugee status.
What Type of Applicant Is the University Looking For?
The minimum academic requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, but relevant research and territorial-analysis skills can strengthen an application.
Preferred qualifications include communication and teamwork skills, experience with manual and digital research tools, fieldwork methods, territorial representation and the analysis of spatial, social and material characteristics of communities and places.
This means the fellowship is particularly relevant to Architecture graduates whose academic or practical work has involved cities, territories, communities, field research, spatial analysis or architectural representation.
How Much Funding Does the Fellowship Provide?
The selected researcher will receive a monthly maintenance allowance of €1,090.98 for six months.
The fellowship is non-renewable and is expected to begin in October 2026. The University also provides personal accident insurance and reimbursement of voluntary social-security contributions under the applicable rules.
This is a research fellowship, rather than a regular salaried employment contract.
What Will the Researcher Work On?
The successful candidate will support community-based and territorial research under the T.E.R.R.A-E project.
The work includes helping organise participatory workshops, collecting community memories and experiences, analysing research material and studying relationships between the school site, the territory of Extremo and its diaspora.
The researcher may also contribute to an exhibition, spatial and territorial analysis, development of the project’s conceptual framework and preparation of material for scientific and public communication.
How Will Applicants Be Selected?
Selection is based first on applicant merit and then, for qualifying candidates, an interview.
Applicant merit accounts for 60% of the final assessment. Within this stage, academic performance carries the greatest weight, followed by the candidate’s scientific or professional background and motivation letter.
Candidates who achieve at least 3 out of 5 in the merit assessment proceed to the interview. The interview contributes the remaining 40% and evaluates knowledge of the field, interpersonal skills, motivation and language skills.

- statement confirming compliance with the fellowship conditions; and
