Applications are now open for the Yale Peace Fellowship 2027, a highly competitive international leadership program for professionals working in peace, reconciliation, cross-cultural understanding and related fields.
Unlike many Yale opportunities aimed at students, this fellowship is designed for experienced professionals, usually with at least five years of significant professional experience. Selected fellows will participate in virtual programming plus two compulsory in-person convenings: one at Yale University in New Haven and another at Rose Castle in the United Kingdom.

Yale Peace Fellowship vs Yale Young Global Scholars: What Is the Difference?
These two Yale programs are completely different.
Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is a two-week academic summer program for high school students, generally aged 16–18. It focuses on academic enrichment and may provide need-based tuition aid.
The Yale Peace Fellowship, on the other hand, is for established professionals working in peace and reconciliation. It expects substantial leadership experience, normally around five years or more, and includes professional development, international engagement and in-person convenings in the United States and United Kingdom.
So if you are a high school student, YYGS is the relevant program. If you are already working professionally in peacebuilding or reconciliation, the Yale Peace Fellowship is the stronger match.
Who Can Apply for Yale Peace Fellowship 2027?
You should apply only if you already have a meaningful professional record in peace, reconciliation or closely related work.
Applicants should:
- Be accomplished in peace and reconciliation
- Demonstrate strong leadership potential
- Show commitment to cross-cultural understanding
- Be fluent in English
- Normally have at least five years of significant professional experience
- Be a citizen of a country other than the United States
Dual U.S. citizens may apply, although Yale gives strong preference to applicants whose work is focused outside the United States.
High-level full-time internships may count toward professional experience if they involved meaningful responsibility and leadership.
What Costs Does Yale Cover?
The program covers the major costs of attending the in-person parts of the fellowship.
Yale states that fellows will have their:
- Travel covered
- Accommodation covered
- Meals covered during the in-person weeks
There are therefore no direct participation costs for fellows during the required in-person components.
However, every applicant must pay the $20 application fee before submission. Yale confirms that application fee waivers are not available.

Participation in all virtual and in-person components is compulsory.

Applicants who cannot attend both in-person components should not apply because these sessions cannot be completed online.
What Do You Need to Submit?
The entire application is completed online, with no paper application required.
Applicants must submit:
- Résumé or CV of no more than three pages
- Personal statement of up to 600 words
- One confidential recommendation letter
- A 90-second video statement
- $20 application fee
Only one recommendation letter is allowed.
For the video statement, applicants receive only two recording attempts. The second recording becomes the final version reviewed by the selection committee, so applicants should practice carefully before recording.
How to Make Your YALE Peace Fellowship Application More Competitive?
Your application should show evidence of leadership, impact and professional maturity rather than relying on broad statements about wanting peace.
The personal statement and video are particularly important because Yale specifically encourages applicants to use them to explain what unique contribution they would bring to the fellowship.
Focus on concrete examples.
Explain what conflict, reconciliation or peacebuilding challenge you have worked on, what responsibility you personally carried, what changed because of your work and what you still need to learn.
A generic statement such as “I want to promote global peace” will tell the selection committee very little.
Your recommender should also be someone who understands your leadership and professional contribution rather than simply someone with a senior title.
