Fully Funded Biology Scholarship 2027 for Masters at Polish Academy of Sciences

The Institute of Genetics and Animal Biotechnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences is recruiting one PhD student for a four-year research project examining how iron metabolism and omega-3 fatty acid metabolism interact and what that means for health.

The scholarship starts at PLN 5,000 gross per month for the first two years and rises to PLN 6,500 gross per month in years three and four after a successful mid-term evaluation.

Who Should Apply?

You need a Master’s degree in biology, biotechnology, animal science or a related discipline.

The project is particularly suitable if your background already includes molecular biology, physiology, cell culture, laboratory-animal research or biological data analysis.

You do not need to arrive as a fully trained specialist. The formal requirements ask for basic knowledge of molecular biology and physiology, strong scientific motivation, teamwork skills and good organisation.

But if two candidates have similar academic records, I would expect relevant laboratory experience to become a major advantage.

What Will You Actually Research?

This PhD is built around a practical biological question: how do iron and omega-3 fatty acids influence each other inside the body?

The project will use a special fat-1 transgenic mouse model capable of producing omega-3 fatty acids internally, helping researchers separate biological effects from dietary supplementation. The work will also include a pig model because pig physiology provides stronger translational relevance to human biology.

You can expect involvement in:

Do You Need IELTS?

IELTS is not specifically mandatory. The Doctoral School requires applicants to prove English proficiency at at least CEFR B2 level, either through an accepted language certificate or an eligible graduation diploma.

What Does the Scholarship Include?

The funding is straightforward: PLN 5,000 gross/month during years 1–2

and

PLN 6,500 gross/month during years 3–4, provided you pass the mid-term evaluation.

You also receive an unusually generous 40 days of annual leave and access to accommodation at preferential rates in the doctoral residence on the institute’s campus.

Most importantly, this recruitment doubles as admission to the Doctoral School of Animal and Health Sciences, so the position is designed to lead toward a doctoral degree rather than functioning as a short-term research assistantship.

How Competitive Is the Application?

Selected candidates who satisfy the formal requirements and project criteria will be invited to an interview.
