University of Borås Scholarships 2027: Prepare for 75% Tuition Support in Sweden
The University of Borås Scholarships for autumn 2027 will support eligible international master’s students in Sweden with approximately 75% off tuition fees. Admission applications are already open, while the separate university scholarship application opens in December. Your preparation can therefore begin before the funding form appears.
From AI management and digital information to textiles and resource recovery, the choices span several academic backgrounds. Which programme fits your degree, and how much would you still need to finance? This guide connects programme choice, scholarship assessment and the two application stages.
01 Which Borås master’s programmes qualify for 2027?
Borås lists 12 eligible master’s programmes for autumn 2027. The university’s specialisms include textiles, resource recovery, business and IT, and information science; use the subject group below to identify your academic direction.
| Study direction | Programmes on the scholarship list |
|---|---|
| Digital and information studies | Informatics: Data-driven IT Management; Information Systems: AI Management; Information Science: Digital Environments. |
| Textiles and fashion | Textile Management; Fashion Marketing and Management; Textile Value Chain Management; Textile Engineering; Technical Textile Innovation. |
| Resource recovery | Biotechnology and Bioeconomy; Sustainable Energy Processes; Polymer Materials for the Circular Economy; Sustainable Civil Engineering. |
Study format also matters. The current Data-Driven IT Management programme is a one-year distance degree; AI Management is taught online over two years. An eligible Borås scholarship programme does not automatically mean relocating to Sweden.
02 What would you still need to pay?
You must finance the remaining tuition and your own living expenses. The award reduces the university invoice; it does not pay a monthly allowance. For example, the published 2027 Data-Driven IT Management tuition is SEK 117,500: a 75% waiver would leave SEK 29,375, before other costs. This is an illustration, not an individual award offer.
The university scholarship regulations also provide a conditional ten-percentage-point increase for year two of a two-year award. Completing 60 credits before the third term qualifies for that increase; at least 52.5 credits are needed to retain the remaining scholarship. Accepting the award, paying the balance and registering on time remain compulsory.
I would prepare a budget using the standard 75% reduction first. Treat the possible second-year increase as conditional, and include accommodation, food and travel if your chosen programme requires attendance in Sweden.
03 Who qualifies, and how does Borås rank applications?
You must be liable for tuition fees and satisfy your programme’s admission requirements. Most citizens outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland pay fees, but residence-based exceptions exist; the university’s fee-status rules explain those exemptions. This scholarship excludes bachelor’s degrees, spring starts and artistic programmes.
Borås first assesses the qualifying degree on a normalised 0–10 scale; at least five points are required to proceed. Its second stage awards up to two points for motivation and one each for an English-language independent academic project, evidenced SDG-related activity, and additional academic merits. English 7 resolves otherwise equal rankings. Five points is Borås’s assessment score, not a universal GPA conversion.
Admission requirements still differ. AI Management requires a qualifying bachelor’s degree, a 15-credit independent project and 7.5 credits in Information Systems. Its English 6/Level 2 requirement can be met by IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or an accepted alternative under University Admissions’ English rules. A generic English-medium letter does not automatically establish an exemption.
04 What should you prepare before the scholarship opens?
Prepare admission evidence now and organise proof of the scholarship merits you intend to claim. These are connected tasks, but they are assessed for different purposes.
- Admission documents: Degree certificate, complete transcripts, identity evidence and English documentation, plus programme-specific materials. Follow the official master’s document and country instructions.
- Scholarship preparation: Draft your programme motivation and gather evidence of an English-language thesis/project, relevant sustainability activity, research, publications, patents or additional degrees, where applicable. The opening form will specify its upload fields.
My recommendation is to connect one genuine achievement to something the programme will help you develop. Our scholarship motivation-letter guide can help structure that argument; its suggested lengths do not replace Borås’s form instructions.
05 How do you submit admission and scholarship applications?
Apply for the degree through Sweden’s national admissions service, then submit the separate funding application to Borås.
- Submit your degree choices. Create an account at University Admissions Sweden, select eligible Borås master’s programmes and rank your choices carefully.
- Complete your admission file. Provide the required documents and pay the SEK 900 application fee if liable. Borås’s admission walkthrough explains how national and university assessments follow.
- Submit the university scholarship form. When it opens, use the application on the official Borås scholarship page. Complete its questions and substantiate the merits you claim; admission submission alone does not apply for this award.
- Act on both decisions. Follow your admission notification and any scholarship offer. Accept funding and pay the remaining tuition within the deadlines in your individual instructions.
06 Which assumptions can derail your Borås funding plan?
Avoid three costly assumptions: treating the waiver as full funding, choosing an excluded artistic degree, or waiting for the scholarship form before starting admission. For two-year recipients, academic progress also affects continued support; an admission offer alone does not secure funding.
07 Other Borås scholarship questions
Can current Borås students apply for second-year support?
Potentially. A separate application opens in spring 2027 for year-two funding, but awards depend on money remaining after new-student allocations. Do not finance your first year on the assumption that this support will follow.
Are the Swedish Institute scholarships the same award?
No. Borås also lists SI Scholarship for Global Professionals and Pioneering Women in STEM, but its programme lists for those schemes still refer to autumn 2026. They do not confirm 2027 eligibility or funding for your chosen programme.
Does admission guarantee a university scholarship?
No. Borås offers a limited number of merit-based awards. Make an affordability decision using your actual scholarship result and remaining tuition, rather than the admission offer alone.
08 When do Borås admission and scholarship applications close?
A separate closing date for the University of Borås autumn 2027 scholarship application has not yet been published. The scholarship form opens on 1 December 2026. The standing regulations connect closure to the national supporting-document deadline; the 2027 form must confirm its exact cutoff.
The last date to apply for autumn 2027 master’s admission is 15 January 2027, midnight CET (UTC+1). Admission opened on 16 October 2026; supporting documents and the application fee are due on 1 February 2027, according to the Borås admissions calendar.
The national admissions calendar gives 1 April 2027 for master’s results. The scholarship page’s reference to March conflicts with these calendars, so its scholarship-notification timing needs clarification. Follow the individual funding notice for acceptance and payment deadlines.
