There is no separate scholarship form for most new applicants, but that does not make the competition easy. ANU ranks candidates on academic merit, research potential, supervisory capacity and alignment with the university’s research strategy.

The A$39,069 Stipend Needs a 2027 Explanation

ANU currently publishes a full-time stipend of A$39,069 per year, paid fortnightly, based on its 2026 rate. The university lists support for up to 3.5 years and the possibility of an extension of up to six months in qualifying circumstances.

Applicants should not automatically describe A$39,069 as the final 2027 amount. The Australian Government has set the national 2027 RTP stipend range at:

• Maximum rate: A$55,537 per year

Universities may choose a stipend within the government-approved range. ANU must therefore confirm its own institutional rate for payments made in 2027. The current A$39,069 figure is a useful planning benchmark, but the scholarship offer letter will contain the authoritative amount.

For research-master’s candidates, the duration may also differ. Australian Government RTP rules allow up to two years of full-time support for a research master’s, while doctoral support normally falls within a three-to-four-year range determined by the university. Is the ANU RTP Scholarship Fully Funded?

Who Can Apply for the 2027 Scholarship?

For PhD admission, ANU normally requires one of the following:

The dependant child allowance and family OSHC benefit are valuable, but they do not mean ANU pays every expense associated with bringing a spouse or children to Canberra.
